Enhance term 3 2024 Week 2
Hi everyone,
Welcome to our first Camp week!
We started off on Wednesday the 14th at Collingwood Alternative School. We began with some leadership, critical thinking and teamwork activities. We then headed into a classroom and went over some leadership values. Students were asked to pick a quote that encompassed what they believed leadership means, we then broke these downs and created our own leadership definition. Following this we begun planning for our Collingwood English language school visit that day, practicing presenting to the young students about sea animals and coming up with creative ideas that will help them better understand this. We then headed off to the English Language school and met with a young class that students will be working with on our aquarium tour the following week. Students then separated in 3 groups, working with CELs students to teach them about sea animals and test their existing knowledge!
On Thursday the 15th we headed off on our first camp for the term. We met at Southern Cross station, dropped our bags off at our accommodation and travelled to flinders street to start our amazing race. In 2 groups of 4 and 5 students had a list of questions to answer by travelling around the Melbourne CBD, following a map and axis to discover the answer. They were given a 2 hour time limit and had to collaboratively put together the best route to take to complete the most questions and gain the most points! It was a tight race with only a couple of questions separating the winner! The winners were Annabelle, Bhagavada, Noah and Shamoni with a total of 1275 points, with group 2 gaining 1050 points! After this, we headed to Hard Rock climbing where students practiced climbing and belaying, working together to ensure everyone was climbing safely! We then headed off to our accommodation and had some relax time before prepping pizzas for dinner! After a few failed and burnt attempts we all had some dinner before heading off to the Eureka Sky deck! While waiting for our session on the edge, students had the chance to look through binoculars into the surrounding Melbourne CBD, 88 floors up! We then braved the 'edge' elevator, a clear glass elevator that takes you out onto the edge of the tower! After the Skydeck we begun heading back, stopping and watching a fire yielding street performer!
On Friday the 16th after having some breakfast and getting ready for the day we headed off to an escape room! A first for many of the students. We tackled the Law and Disorder room that was said to be the hardest! Given 60 minutes to discover clues regarding the murder of our partner, students worked together, searching for clues and completing puzzles to get through 3 different rooms and eventually escape! Each group managed to escape but with many challenges along the way! Noah, Annabelle, Charlotte and Yahya came out on top making it out a few minutes quicker than the others!
After the escape room we headed to the State library to complete some journal work and start brainstorming their community project to the aquarium
We had a wonderful camp and are so impressed with all students participation, attitude and perseverance, we hope all students enjoyed our first camp and are looking forward to a next one!
