Day 1)
On Wednesday, we made our way to the Diamond Valley Sports and Fitness Centre. With Brad’s help, we were each given a personalized fitness plan based on what we wanted to focus on at the gym. We started off by working on our cardio, giving ourselves time to warm up and get into the flow. Afterwards, we wrapped up our session with a fun game of basketball, putting our energy and teamwork into play.
We then reflected on our school term goals, discussing ways to measure our progress throughout the term. Just like our gym goals, we spoke about the importance of applying the same motivation and consistency to our schoolwork and personal growth.
Later that day, we visited Jets Studio where we met Seb, the lead facilitator of the New Hope Street and Graffiti Art Program. Seb gave insight into the space of Jets Studio and how this program provides a safe and supportive space for young artists to develop their creativity and artistic skills. We had the chance to experiment with spray painting first by testing our ideas, on blank piece of paper then creating our own ideas onto Jets Studio wall. It was such a great experience seeing everyone express their creativity in different ways, with each person showcasing their individual style and talents.
Day 2)
On Day 2, we prepared and made our way to the Cathedrals Hike Camp. The drive there was full of good vibes, we enjoyed the stunning views and listened to some great tunes along the way.
Once we arrived, we worked together as a team to unload everything and set up our tents, officially beginning our camping experience. After getting settled, we started preparing for our hike. We changed into appropriate clothes, packed our essentials, and appointed our leaders for the journey Jack and Majai who did an awesome job guiding us and checking in to make sure everyone was doing okay on the way up.
The hike was challenging but rewarding. When we reached the top, we took a moment to tap into our character strength of appreciation of beauty and excellence. Standing there, surrounded by incredible views, we reflected, chatted, and simply enjoyed each other’s company before starting our descent.
On the way down, Charlie took over as our new leader and helped guide us safely back to camp. The return trip seemed to go by quickly, and once we got back, we took some time to relax. A few of the team helped prepare dinner we then played a fun game of Imposter. We ended the night around the fire pit, sharing stories and playing games under the stars. Before heading to bed, we reflected on our day thinking about the positive thoughts and strengths that helped us through the hike.
Day 3)
The next morning, we woke up bright and early to start our final day. We packed up our belongings, took down our tents, and enjoyed a healthy breakfast before making sure the campsite was left just as we found it.
Our next stop was Steavenson Falls Reserve. Although this walk was shorter, it was full of beautiful sights. When we reached the top, we admired the breathtaking waterfall and took a moment to appreciate it together as a group. On the way back down, we got to see the falls from different angles, each just as stunning as the last.
Afterwards, we headed to a nearby park to enjoy some lunch before making our way home. It was the perfect way to end an amazing excursion a great way to start the term, break the ice, get to know each other better, and learn about mental strategies while connecting with nature.
