Hi everyone, please find below our week 3 blog!
Wednesday: Hello everyone, and welcome back to the blog! We’re now in the second-last week of our program and time has flown. What better way to begin wrapping up than with an incredible leadership camp. We travelled nearly two hours to Rubicon Outdoor School Thornton Campus, where the adventure began. Before stepping off the bus, we had a group debrief where each of us chose a character strength to focus on and develop throughout the experience, with regular check-ins to reflect on our growth. We were warmly welcomed by Neil, John and Coxy, who got us prepped and ready for a big day out on the river. After being fitted with the right gear, we headed to the river for our safety briefing and equipment overview. The rafting session was a highlight, everyone worked in pairs and showed great teamwork, communication, and resilience navigating the Goulburn River and faced some scary rapids. It was the perfect opportunity to learn and build confidence ahead of our longer camp day. Afterwards, we returned to Royston House for food prep and dinner. The evening included time to reflect on our community project and, of course, a few competitive rounds of Uno and Mafia!
Thursday: We were up bright and early on Thursday for an exciting day at Lake Mountain Alpine Resort. The morning began with everyone using their self-leadership skills to prepare breakfast, pack lunches, and organise their equipment for the day ahead. After a quick safety briefing, we hit the skiing trails! As a team, we supported each other along the way, sharing laughs and learning as we went. We built snowmen, threw snowballs, and most importantly, developed our skiing skills most of us for the very first time. they all did an awesome job going down a slope and challenging themselves. After a full day on the snow, we travelled back to our accommodation, a group cooked dinner and presented our mock community projects. The night ended with a few intense rounds of Mafia before a well-earned rest.
Friday: Our final day came quickly. After packing up and saying goodbye to Royston House, we headed back to the slopes for one last skiing session. This time, we tackled a different route and really leaned into the skills we’d learned the day before. It was amazing to see everyone feeling more confident and capable. Before heading home, we had one last debrief with Neil and Coxy. We reflected on our time at camp and showed our appreciation for their support, leadership, and encouragement. A big thank you to both for guiding us through an unforgettable experience. We then caught a few well-deserved naps on the bus ride home.
Thanks for tuning into this week’s blog next week is our final one, and we’re excited to end the program with a bang. Micaela interviewed Trinity and Sam this week!
Interview:
What was the highlight of the week during camp
Trinity: “The first day we went to the snow because we learnt skills and went down the hill”
Sam: “Skiing”
With your chosen leadership skill that you chose on day 1 how did you demonstrate this throughout the camp?
Trinity: “I chose responsibility, by making sure I was organised all packed”
Sam: My chosen leadership skill was perseverance I displayed through the weather conditions and behavioural expectations of others”
What is something surprising you learnt about yourself during this week?
Trinity: “So when yesterday where I went skiing, I didn’t know I could ski and I thought that I couldn’t but when I actually did it felt good”
Sam: “I was surprised I could ski because I’m very uncoordinated”
