Hi everyone and welcome to the blog for week 6!
This week was the last camp and filled with lots of fun activities!
We started off on Wednesday meeting at Flinders Street Station for our 'Amazing Race'. The students were split into two groups and had an explanation of how the game worked. They had a question sheet, a map and where to explore down Swanston street to find the clues and answers to all the questions! They all had to work together to navigate the map and problem solve to get all the answers. Everyone collaborated so well, and both groups got most of the answers within the timeframe! We then all met in the Melbourne central food court to have some lunch. After lunch we headed to Hard Rock-climbing centre. We all had a safety briefing and were taught all about how to climb and how to be the belayer. Once everyone got checked off in the safety briefing, we all got to climbing! Everyone gave it their best shot and climbed to the top of many walls with varying difficulty. They all worked great as a team keeping everyone safe up the wall and for the descent. Before we headed out, we had some races on the solo climbing wall which was very exciting!
We had a great day in the city and are ready for camp!
On Thursday we all met at Collingwood station as usual and began our drive to Wesburn recreational camp. Once we all arrived, we unpacked our bags in our cabins and had something to snack on before our bike ride! We rode along the Lilydale Warburton Rail Trail to the Yarra valley archery park. Everyone showed amazing leadership along the ride taking turns in being the leader and checking in on the group and taking the necessary breaks. We arrived at the archery and had our safety briefing and instructions on how to shoot the arrows. After many bullseyes and some friendly competitions, we begun our ride back to the bus to go back to camp. Everyone had the opportunity to relax and shower before we started dinner. The students all made tacos and like the other camps all had their own cooking roles and made a delicious meal! We all enjoyed the food and had some great chats.
After dinner we all had some time to relax, some students played card games and puzzles and others watched the movie Open Season and Fast and Furious and then it was time for bed!
On Friday we all woke up and packed up our cabins ready for the exciting day ahead! After everyone had cleaned up the camp and had breakfast we drove to the Britannia creek caves! We all geared up in our safety gear and headed in. Everyone was extremely calm and supportive of each other while we all slid through small spaces and crawled around to explore the cave. Students were also asked to focus on a leadership quality and character strength they want to work on and best portrayed during the cave. The students all provided guidance to one another about how to best navigate the tricky spaces and the best way to place their footing. After we completed the cave everyone was slightly wet and muddy but all feeling extremely accomplished! We then drove to a park along the way home to enjoy our last camp lunch together! Everyone was quite tired on the way home after all the hard work they had put in over the past few days. It was a great last camp together!
This week for our student interview we have Ruby from Richmond high school. Ruby’s favourite part of the week was eating and making Tacos for dinner on camp and eating together in Melbourne central food court after the amazing race . This week she found Caving was most challenging because it was quite claustrophobic. And Ruby is most looking forward to Graduation and receiving hoodie!
We can’t wait to see you all next week for the graduation!
