Purpose

Operation Newstart allows students who are experiencing difficulties at school, to engage in a high challenge, outdoor pursuit program that assists them in reaching their potential. It allows students a unique opportunity to develop new skills and self confidence while accessing vocational links into TAFE and industry.

Vocational Orientation

Students visit different work settings which may stimulate a chosen career path. Our relationship with Kangan Institute and Melbourne Polytechnic allows 'taster days' in Agriculture, Hospitality, Engineering, Horticulture, Hair and Beauty, and Carpentry as well as ongoing career support.

Community Projects

The program gives students the opportunity to take part in projects which benefit the larger community, such as assisting at Collingwood Children’s Farm, presenting environmental issues on local radio and bike restoration/donation projects.

Health and Wellbeing

There is a focus on health and life skills throughout the term. As well as undertaking many physical challenges, the program enables students to learn about other aspects of their own health and wellbeing through workshops and service engagement. These may include workshops on mental health, sexual health, and drugs and alcohol; healthy eating classes and recurring opportunities for self reflection.
