Nillumbik/Banyule Term 4 Week Seven

It's camp week! At the end of the program we always have a final camp, where students can put to use all the skills they've learnt. They are also assessed during this time on areas such as team work, attitude, organisation and leadership. There are plenty of opportunities to display these qualities and focus on how we have grown as a group over time.

After making sure we had everything packed, we headed off in the trusty bus to Alexandria where we begin our journey. Here the students checked over all the bikes and once our tyres were pumped and seats adjusted we headed off on the rail trail towards Molesworth, where we would be staying for the night. Despite the hot weather and lots of flies, we made it to our campsite with plenty of time to set up camp and relax by the Goulbourn river before dinner. The students shared the role of cooking a delicious bbq dinner, and a quick clean up. In the evening we had a chance for group reflective discussion, which benefits students individually as well as increasing the awareness and understanding of those around them.

After this we headed to bed, although some had little sleep due to our little tents blowing around in high winds and rain. We all woke up safe and sound on Thursday morning however, and despite a little rain the weather was pleasant and great for another day of bike riding. After packing up camp and a delicious breakfast of bacon and eggs, we headed back onto the rail trail towards Yea. The track is really great quality and the students enjoy being out in this scenic part of Victoria. Once we arrived at Yea, we had a picnic lunch before heading back to Eltham. The camp was successful, with everyone completing all elements and making it an enjoying couple of days.
