Hi everyone! Welcome to the week 4 blog!!
We’ve had such an exciting week this week!
We started off the day on Wednesday with a beautiful walk along the Yarra river on our way to Collingwood children’s farm. First off we got to hang out and feed the guinea pigs. We then went and fed the goats which was very cool as they were super friendly and excited to eat! We then lastly saw the sheep and pigs! After the farm we drove to Maribyrnong again to see Sal for another boxing session!
It was great to solidify the skills we had learnt last session; we did drills again with the boxing bags adding in some new techniques. And finally at the end the students had the opportunity again to spar in the ring with Sal. It was great to see the improvements and what been learnt between the two sessions.
On Thursday we got ready to embark on our surf camp! We drove to Torquay to the surf shop for everyone to get fitted for our wetsuits and then headed back to Bancoora surf lifesaving club where we would be staying. We put all the bags and food in the rooms and kitchen and headed back into Torquay for our first surfing lesson. We had an introduction of the basics on the sand and then got stuck into surfing! Everyone learnt a lot and caught some great waves and just as great wipeouts. It was great to see everyone practising the 4 Ps we were using, Patience, perseverance, positivity and participation. After our surf lesson we all got changed and headed to have some hot chips, potato cakes and dim sims on the beach which was well deserved! Once we were all full and had our energy back, we went on a quick walk across Bells beach and watched some of the surfers and the huge waves!
After we got back we all had a shower and a relax, before we all got stuck into cooking dinner. The students made sausages, chicken and burgers on the BBQ and a wonderful salad, they all showed great teamwork cooking and cleaning after dinner. We finished off the big day watching their chosen movie, Coach Carter and eating popcorn.
We woke up nice and early on the Friday morning to have some pancakes and breakfast before our next surf lesson. Everyone did their best with the chilly morning and gave it their best go! Everyone continued to improve their surfing a lot and continued the use of the 4 ps. After a great surf lesson, we had some lunch and cleaned up all our things from the lifesaving club and got ready to head back home.
For our student interview this week we spoke to Frankie from Fitzroy High school. Frankie’s overall highlight of the week was making and preparing dinner together as a group because everyone had their own roles, and it was a great group effort. She also loved the walk along bells beach and the hot chips on the beach. This week Frankie found the boxing the most challenging because her arms got tired. And she is most looking forward to going caving and the next camp.
We’ll have lots of videos of everyone surfing in the end of term video and can’t wait for next week
