MERRIBEK TERM 1 2025 WEEK 2

Our week started off with a visit to the local Headspace in Glenroy, We had Tash run a small workshop with students teaching them about stress and coping, this was great chance to show the students a local organisation where they can gain support and different coping mechanisms to deal with stressful situations. After this we made our way to Bunnings in Coburg where we met Bunnings worker Stephanie. Stephanie gave us all a tour of Bunnings and arranged for the students to build 2 flat packs of cupboards that they decided to donate to the Oxygen Youth Space!

On Thursday, we embarked on our first camp of the term. Meeting at Collingwood Station we headed to the Collingwood Alternative School to load up all the supplies and debrief on our upcoming trip. After a 1.5hr drive we arrived at the Cathedral Ranges and started unloaded the bus to the campsite. After eating some lunch and setting up our tents we started our hike up to Ned’s Peak. Embracing positive mindsets we started a difficult uphill journey through the stunning ranges, on the look out for different animals! Students practiced resilience and positive mindsets to get through challenging uphills, which were all worth it once we reached the look out at Ned’s Peak. We were surrounded by stunning views and great company! After spending some time relaxing and taking in the scenery we made our decent back down. Once back the campsite we started preparing some dinner, sitting by the fire and reflecting on the day before heading off to bed!

After waking up on Friday we had some breakfast before packing up our tents. Once all the gear was packed up we headed off to Stevensons falls, where we completed a short walk up to the top of a waterfall, after a short 60 minute walk up and back we made our way back to Coburg, stopping at a local park for some lunch!

We had an awesome first camp, with every student completing both Hikes with a positive mindset, making some great memories! We can wait for our next camp coming up in 2 weeks!
