Yarra Week 2 2017

This week we had quite a few changes to our planned program due to a few injuries and absences, however we still managed to have a lot of fun and do most of the activities planned!

Wednesday started off with writing school goals and preparing for camp. The students all selected a number of school goals and personal goals to focus on throughout the term. We use this goals as a focus point at various times throughout the term, particularly when we visit students in school fortnightly. After this we got out all the camp equipment, including tents, sleeping mats, trangias etc. After all this was done we headed out for a bike ride along the Yarra river towards the city. It’s a lovely ride from Richmond along the water, and we enjoyed stopping off at the Burnley climbing wall along the way.

Thursday was intended to be our first day of the You Yangs camp, but unfortunately due to low numbers we had to call it off. Instead of a hike at the You Yangs we took our students out to the beautiful Dandenong Ranges and did the Kododa Memorial track (1000 Steps). The group was impressively speedy and completed it with no breaks at all. From here we ended off the day with a visit to Trees adventure, where everyone had a go at a few different courses and gave it a great go!

As we would usually spend the second day of camp mountain bike riding, we got the bikes out again for a local ride. We lengthened the ride from earlier in the week and rode all the way into Federation Square. We spent some time here in the city visiting the Ian Potter Gallery, having lunch in the square and checking out some of the amazing street art. It was a really great way to end the week and we really appreciate everyone’s understanding, flexibility and participation with the changes this week.
